Topical Minoxidil: Hair Growth Agent

Absorption of Minoxidil and Inflammation on the Scalp

How could we avoid the possibility of inflammation and contact dermatitis when we apply topical minoxidil to the scalp?

When you apply a minoxidil solution to the scalp, it would be better to apply the solution while the scalp is still wet. It will dilute the concentration of the solution with water on the skin.
A thinner solution may reduce the possibility of inflammation caused by a high concentration minoxidil solution.

A minoxidil solution is absorbed through the scalp while the skin is kept wet. It would be better to keep scalp wet for a while after application of a minoxidil solution to the scalp. It will secure absorption time of minoxidil through the skin.

On the contrary, if you dry your scalp immediately after the application of a minoxidil solution to the scalp, the concentration of a minoxidil solution may become higher in the process of drying with a hair dryer.
It might increase the risk of inflammation on the scalp and contact dermatitis caused by a high concentration minoxidil solution.

Minoxidil will not be absorbed through the scalp after the skin is dried with a hair dryer. Absorption of the drug will be stopped, if the scalp is dried quickly after application of the solution.
Moreover, the remnants of minoxidil on the skin surface may cause contact dermatitis afterwards.
