Allergic Reaction to Minoxidil

It is rare that someone has an allergic reaction to minoxidil. Even after the first topical minoxidil therapy, an anaphylactic reaction will appear with symptoms of rash, itching, swelling of face and lips.

Sometimes, the patient may complain difficulty in breathing, chest pain, headache and tachycardia. It is a critical situation, which needs medical treatment immediately. Call an ambulance without hesitation.

The incidence of minoxidil allergy is quite rare. The author has experienced only two patients with minoxidil allergy in more than 20 years. Minoxidil cannot be used in such a patient with an anaphylactic reaction to minoxidil.
