Oral Minoxidil; Safe Dose

Responder to Minoxidil and Initial Hair Loss

There is a difference in individual constitution regarding the response to a drug. It is the difference between responder and non-responder.

Responder means a person in whom a drug works effectively. Non-responder means a person in whom no remarkable difference can be noticed by using a drug.

When someone starts using minoxidil for the first time for the treatment of hair loss, the person may notice increase in hair shedding after shampoo and in the daily life.

This response is what is called “minoxidil shedding” or “Rogaine shedding”, which means initial hair loss that can be observed from a few weeks to 1-2 months after the start of minoxidil treatment.

The mechanism of minoxidil shedding (initial hair loss) is discussed in details on the other page on this website.

Initial hair loss is a good sign indicating that the person is a responder to minoxidil. Hair shedding will decrease in 1-2 months, and hair thickness will increase significantly from 4-6 months to 6-12 months.
