Myocardial Ischemia: Angina Pectoris

Narrowing in the lumen of an artery is called “stenosis”. If there is stenosis in some part of an artery, it causes decrease in blood flow. Insufficient blood flow is called “ischemia”.

Stenosis in the coronary artery causes myocardial ischemia and insufficient oxygen supply in the distal area of the stenosis.

Myocardial ischemia results in chest pain. It is called “angina pectoris” or “a coronary artery disease”.

The chest pain indicates that there is a coronary artery disease in the patient.
