Minoxidil; Frequent Questions and Answers-2

Q 2-27.
How to Reduce Scalp Inflammation Caused by Minoxidil Solution?

How can we avoid inflammation and contact dermatitis caused by high concentration minoxidil solution?

A 2-27.

As explained in the previous paragraph, dilution of the concentration of minoxidil solution and longer absorption time will reduce the possibility of inflammation and contact dermatitis on the scalp, which is caused by high concentration minoxidil solution.

On the contrary, if you dry your scalp immediately after the application of high concentration minoxidil solution to the scalp, the concentration of minoxidil solution on the scalp will rise during drying process with a hair dryer, which may increase the risk of contact dermatitis caused by high concentration minoxidil solution according to the author’s opinion.

Some amount of minoxidil may not be absorbed and remain on the scalp after quick hair drying. The author also considers that the residual minoxidil on the scalp might cause contact dermatitis afterwards.

In case of contact dermatitis on the scalp, you had better consult a dermatologist for medical treatment with an anti-inflammatory agent. After the treatment of scalp inflammation with a steroid lotion, you can resume using topical minoxidil.
