Unfavorable effects caused by oral minoxidil are mainly related to heart disorders.

Adverse effects of minoxidil include thickening of body hair, ECG change, swelling on hands and feet, headache, tachycardia, pericardial effusion, cardiac tamponade, heart failure, angina pectoris, hypotension, Steven-Johnson syndrome, etc.

Those who have symptoms of chest pain and arrhythmia or those who have already been diagnosed to have cardiac diseases are high risk patients. They should not choose oral minoxidil therapy.

If a patient with a heart disease has been taking oral minoxidil, he should stop oral minoxidil as soon as possible.
