It would be ideal if there were no doctor who prescribes oral minoxidil for patients suffering from hair loss. If a patient is not taking minoxidil tablets, the patient doesn’t need to worry about dose reduction of minoxidil tablets.

However, there are many doctors who prescribe 5-10 mg minoxidil tablets for patients as an easy solution to hair loss.
Once a patient experiences increase in hair thickness by oral minoxidil, it is often difficult for the patient to reduce the dose of oral minoxidil.

The author always recommends patients to reduce the dose of oral minoxidil as low as possible. However, it is usually difficult for patients to reduce or stop the dose of oral minoxidil.

The author holds an opinion that the lowest dose of oral minoxidil may be acceptable. The safe dose of oral minoxidil will be 0.25-0.5 mg per day for women and 0.5-1 mg per day for men in the author’s opinion.
