Aromatase (Cytochrome P450 Enzyme)

Aromatase (cytochrome P450 enzyme) changes testosterone to estradiol and estrone.

Acceleration of this metabolism relatively reduces the conversion of testosterone to DHT.
A decrease in the level of DHT has a protective effect on the hair follicles.

This means that aromatase has a protective effect on the hair follicles in the androgen metabolism of AGA.

Aromatase Inhibitor

Aromatase inhibitors reduce the activity of aromatase.
A decrease in aromatase activity leads to a decrease in the conversion of testosterone to estrogen.

Then, testosterone is guided to the other pathway, which relatively increases the conversion of testosterone into DHT.

This is the reason why hair thinning can develop in women treated with aromatase inhibitors for breast cancer.
